When you’re trying to update, restore or jailbreak your iDevice (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch), you might run into troubles, which end your update/restore, and leave your iDevice in “Connect To iTunes” state (This is called DFU mode (Device Firmware Upgrade)).

iTunes itself will also provide you with an errormessage, containing any of these numbers:
2, 4, 5, 6, 9, 13, 14, -18, 19, 20, 21, 23, 28, 29, -48, -50, 1002, 1011, 1013, 1014, 1015, 1601, 1602, 1603, 1604, 1608, 1609, 1611, 1612, 1639, 2009, 3004, 3013, 3014, 3015, 9807, -9808, 9844, 4026xxxxx

Now, what to do when your iPhone is stuck in DFU mode, and iTunes tells you it can’t restore?
A few first things to check and to do before calling Apple in a panic mode:
– Is all your software up to date? Especially your iTunes version needs to be the most recent one!
– Is your iDevice connected directly to your computer? No USB hubs inbetween? Not connected to your keyboard or anything?
– Do you have other USB devices connected? Try disconnecting them.
– Try rebooting your computer.
I’ve had this problem plenty times (almost every update/jailbreak), and was always able to get it back in place using these simple tricks. So, good luck to you too!
