Match!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You know how it goes, you love your iPhone, and you love your Linux machine. Too bad, your two loves don&#8217;t really mix and match&#8230; Your iPhone needs iTunes, and unfortunately, iTunes is available for Windows, and for Mac, but not for Linux, not in any flavor. However, have we got news for you: as long as your iDevice runs on iOS 3.1 (jailbroken or not) and up (which it normally should), there is a way to sync your iPhone to your Linux machine, Ubuntu, or other Linux Distro&#8217;s.<br \/>\nStep 1: Add the Repository and update it:<br \/>\n<code>sudo add-apt-repository ppa:pmcenery\/ppa<\/code><br \/>\n<code>sudo apt-get update<\/code><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1989\" style=\"width: 237px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.icantinternet.org\/wp-content\/sync-iphone-on-linux.jpg.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1989\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1989\" title=\"sync-iphone-on-linux\" src=\"http:\/\/www.icantinternet.org\/wp-content\/sync-iphone-on-linux.jpg.png\" alt=\"sync-iphone-on-linux\" width=\"227\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1989\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">sync-iphone-on-linux<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Step 2: Installing the required packages:<br \/>\n<code>sudo apt-get install gvfs gvfs-backends gvfs-bin gvfs-fuse libgvfscommon0 ifuse libgpod-dev libgpod-common libiphone-utils libiphone0 python-iphone libplist++1 libplist-utils python-plist libusb-1.0-0 libusb-1.0-0-dev libusbmuxd1 usbmuxd<\/code><\/p>\n<p>Step 3: Now we need to configure some stuff&#8230; First we need to edit fuse.conf:<br \/>\n<code>gksudo gedit \/etc\/fuse.conf<\/code><br \/>\nLook for the line that says<br \/>\n<code>#user_allow_other<\/code><br \/>\nand uncomment it:<br \/>\n<code>user_allow_other<\/code><br \/>\nThen save and exit!<\/p>\n<p>Step 4: Now we need to give you the rights to automount your iPhone.<br \/>\n&#8211; Go to \u201cSystem\u201d -&gt; \u201cAdministration\u201d -&gt; \u201cUsers and Groups\u201d<br \/>\n&#8211; Click on the little key to unlock, so that you can make changes to the settings.<br \/>\n&#8211; Search for your username and click on \u201cManage Groups\u201d.<br \/>\n&#8211; Doubleclick on the &#8220;fuse&#8221; group, and check the checkbox next to your name. Click ok to save, and close.<br \/>\n&#8211; Log out and back in (or reboot if you trust that more and don&#8217;t give a damn about the impressive &#8220;online since&#8221; numbers your linux machine can give you \ud83d\ude09 )<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1065\" style=\"width: 257px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1065\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1065 \" title=\"pinguin_os-tux-ubuntu\" src=\"http:\/\/www.icantinternet.org\/wp-content\/pinguin_os-tux-ubuntu.png\" alt=\"Tux Ubuntu Linux\" width=\"247\" height=\"250\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1065\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tux Ubuntu Linux<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Step 5: Mount your phone with one of these two commands:<br \/>\n<code>$ ifuse \/mnt\/ipod\/<\/code><br \/>\n<code>$ fusermount -u \/mnt\/ipod\/<\/code><\/p>\n<p>Step 6. Now, let&#8217;s get your iPhone&#8217;s itunes directory setup:<br \/>\n<code>$ mkdir \/mnt\/ipod\/iTunes_Control\/Device\/<\/code><br \/>\nGet the UUID of your iPhone (The first number, 40 characters long)<br \/>\n<code>$ lsusb -v | grep -i iSerial<\/code><br \/>\nNext do<br \/>\n<code>$ ipod-read-sysinfo-extended<\/code><br \/>\n[mountpoint here is \/mnt\/ipod\/]<br \/>\nThis will give you this file: <code>iTunes_Control\/Device\/SysInfoExtended<\/code>.<br \/>\nOpen it using a texteditor to check that it is not empty (it should be a plist file, with XML in it).<\/p>\n<p>Step 7:<br \/>\nUnmount your iphone and reboot<br \/>\n<code>$ fusermount -u \/mnt\/ipod\/<\/code><br \/>\nAfter the reboot, you should have your iPhone on your desktop, in your filemanager, and in Rhytmbox. If you want to mount it in gtkpod, you have to run:<br \/>\n<code>ifuse \/mnt\/ipod<\/code><br \/>\nNow you can start adding music and videos via Rythmbox and gtkpod, and enjoy your iPhone &#8211; Linux combo!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You know how it goes, you love your iPhone, and you love your Linux machine.
